Job Title: Class Room Intern

Status: Exempt/Full or Part-Time

Description:
To assist the Head Teacher and Teachers in preparing and maintaining a safe, secure environment that interprets the Montessori program, philosophy and policies of the WMS in a kind, gentle, respectful and safe manner. To participate in and observe the Montessori classroom and actively offer creative ideas. To utilize the theories, practices and curriculum taught at AMS training centers and to develop Montessori teaching skills. Reports to the Head Teacher and the Director.


Duties
1. Supports the work of the Head Teacher and Teacher.
2. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of the prepared Montessori environment as directed.
3. Is directly responsible for dusting and cleaning the environment, refilling supplies and properly storing all classroom supplies.
4. Assists with the care, maintenance and development of the classroom materials by maintaining an orderly environment and keeping it clean and in good condition as directed. Assists in the preparation of the curriculum materials.
5. May be asked to repair materials and equipment as necessary or as directed.
6. Phrases directives positively when speaking with the children.
7. Works with individual or small groups of children as directed by the Head Teacher.
8. Supervises the classroom as directed by the Head Teacher.
9. Shares responsibility for the safety and physical well being of the children at all times.
10. The children are not to be left unattended and classroom/playground ratios must be maintained at 3 adults for 25 children.
11. Report any and all accident/incident at once to the Director. Prepare a written report stating the date, time, nature of accident/incident and action taken.
12. Attend staff meeting as and when requested to.
13. Initial opportunity to learn.
14. Notifies the Head Teacher and the Director immediately of personal or professional difficulties with children, parent or staff.
15. Be available to assist with occasional support duties.
16. Models integrity, respect, creativity and responsibility for all persons.


Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent and must be enrolled in an AMS Training Course
2. Meet minimum OCCS requirements
3. Meets state and school health requirements
4. Pass clear criminal background check
5. Must be at least 18 years of age
6. Organized, professional and a team player
