About the School

The Wellesley Montessori School, established in 1974, is dedicated to providing a quality pre-school for 2.9 to 6 year old children in a pleasant, caring environment conducive to learning.
The classes have 20 to 24 children of mixed ages with three teachers in each class. The classes meet five days a week, three hours per day (9a.m. to 12p.m. or 1p.m. to 4p.m.) We also have our Child Care Center for those families wishing for additional care (open from 7:30a.m. to 5:30p.m.)
Affiliated with the American Montessori Society, we offer a full Montessori program. The students have exposure to, have lessons in and work with materials in the area of Practical Life, Sensorial Development, Geography, Math, Language (English phonics,) and Science. The children spend a part of their class in a group: singing, movement, show and tell, daily class lesson, stories and snack. They spend the other part of the class period independently working, playing and choosing their activities.
We attempt to help the child learn to do for their selves, to be able to make appropriate choices, to develop a strong self-image, as well as to grow and learn at his own pace.
The Wellesley Montessori School, incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is a non-profit organization.

Birthday Celebrations

Birthdays of the children are celebrated at snack time with the class if so desired. Parents will supply the snack for the class that day and are welcome to join us in the classroom during the snack time. If the child is having a party not during school hours, to which the classmates are invited, please mail the invitations and do not give them to us to pass out at school.

Visiting the Classrooms

The school is equipped with one-way mirrors. We encourage you to come and observe your child throughout the school year. The best times to observe your child are during the presentation of materials (beginning of the session) and during the work period (immediately after the presentation.) Please feel free to come at the time that suits you best. No appointments are necessary!

Parental Involvement

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher conferences will be scheduled. The dates will be announced after school is in session. You will be able to schedule a 30-minute conference on the day set aside for your child’s teacher. Classes will be in session in usual. You may speak with the teachers at anytime throughout the school year, not just at the schedule conference time.
Parents Nights
During the school year we will have a few Parents Nights to provide interesting and informative evenings with topics relating to the Montessori experience and other subjects relating to the 3 to 6 year old child.

Lunches and Snack

All children should have a lunch box with their names on them. Please put your child’s name on the lunch box.
The Child Center will provide snacks in the morning and in the afternoons but you are responsible for providing a balanced, nutritious lunch for your child. Also, please include a beverage and, in needed, the utensils necessary for your child to eat lunch you have prepared.

The children are dismissed from school, delivered to their appropriate afternoon Montessori class or sent to the Child Center following these mid-day activities.
